Uruguay joints the Joint Declaration on Chemical Leasing!

15th September 2021

Key Words: Chemicals; Leasing; policymakers.

In a framework of the Global Chemical Leasing Award Ceremony, the Ambassador H. E. Ms. Maria Elizabeth Bogosian (Alternate Permanent Representative of Uruguay to UNIDO) confirmed the commitment of the Government of Uruguay to join Declaration on Chemical Leasing and embed this business model in Uruguay’s national policies:

On behalf of the Government of Uruguay, its Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we would like to express our gratefulness to the Government of Austria, for the invitation to participate in today´s Award ceremony, successfully, its 5th. Edition.

Likewise, and as a committed and recognized actor in the International Environmental Agenda, we are very proud to adhere and support the 2016 Joint Declaration of Intent on Chemical Leasing, and become a new partner in this initiative, put forward by UNIDO, and the Austrian, German and Swiss Governments.

Our country believes that chemical leasing is a valid business model of circular economy, that changes the focus from one increasing the sales volume of chemical products, to one centered in added value, thus contributing in an innovative manner to the sustainable management of chemical products, minimizing chemical waste and helping to preserve human health and ecosystems.

The Uruguayan Government attaches great importance to the decision to adhere to the Joint Declaration of Intent, since it is a clear indication of the official support to this initiative, which constitutes an excellent opportunity to give circular economy and sustainable development a key and meaningful role in our country.

Therefore, we would like, once again, to thank and to convey to the representatives of UNIDO, and the Governments of Austria, Germany and Switzerland present here today, the appreciation of the Uruguayan Government for this invitation, and its desire to work together in the setting-up of a close, cooperative framework among the partners.

Thank you.
